Welcome to Café de Lenguas & Cultura Project (CLC)!
Café de Lenguas & Cultura (CLC) is a non-profit organization in Puerto Lopez, a quiet fishing village in Manabí, Ecuador. The café is a place for local Spanish speakers and visiting English speakers to meet and share their cultures and languages in a relaxed atmosphere. Here at Café de Lenguas & Cultura, people of all different ages, backgrounds, and corners of the world can meet and learn from one another. This exposure facilitates an understanding and respect for different cultures of the world that is a great learning experience for all participants.
In addition to our cultural exchanges, Café de Lenguas works within the community of Puerto Lopez teaching English to students both at Clara Luna Language School and in the public schools. The education system in Puerto Lopez needs help. Most of the schools in the area don’t have the funds to provide high quality educational opportunities for the community. Café de Lenguas y Cultura is working hard in tandem with Clara Luna Language School to put qualified and experienced volunteer English teachers in local schools; being bilingual can drastically improve a child’s opportunities and quality of their life. Café de Lenguas & Cultura also offers educational after school activities run by our volunteers which range from arts and crafts to recycling.
Volunteers working with us have the opportunity to discover hidden talents, learn new skills, and ultimately make a positive impact on the lives of local Ecuadorians and visitors alike. Not only are they able to work at the language exchange facilitating understanding between cultures, but they also have the opportunity to teach English or other unique skills to local students that will benefit enormously from their help, ideas, and expertise. Volunteers make close connections with the community here in Puerto Lopez, and ultimately leave with a sense of achievement, a new family, and a new outlook on life.
